The New York Rangers and goalie Henrik Lundqvist sent a signed stick to an 11-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries when a bus collided with a dump truck in northern New Jersey on Thursday morning.
Two people, including a 10-year-old student and 51-year-old teacher from East Brook (Paramus, N.J.) Middle School, died in the crash, according to northjersey.com, which is part of the USA TODAY Network.
Brendan O’Callaghan, one of 43 injured, was on his way to his fifth-grade field trip to Waterloo Village. He suffered a fractured temple bone, a broken collarbone, a punctured right lung and a bruised orbital bone, his father said. O’Callaghan is recovering at a local hospital and has no recollection of the accident.
The Rangers surprised him with a goalie stick signed by Lundqvist and a card that said, “Dear Brendan: You’re in our thoughts and our prayers. Best wishes, the New York Rangers.”
