Hi, I’m Colton Smith and I attended the AI at RBC HLF VPE Virtual Learning Service event. I absolutely loved this event and loved how interactive and in depth the presentation was. Caelin Bradshaw (AI Engineer, Analyst, RBC), the presenter, was nice and used some very good examples to show ethical ways to use AI in relationships and school as well as in business at RBC. He also showed us how difficult it is nowadays to seek out AI generated images and how it can be used to be more efficient in the workspace.
Personally, my favorite topic was when he used AI generated images and text to see if we could figure out what was AI generated. It helped keep the event entertaining and kept everyone engaged. To go more in depth about the ethics and images, he showed us a breakup text and images of everyday things such as kids, cars, and houseplants. In the breakup text specifically, I found that it is unethical and immoral to use AI to generate something that should be heartfelt and sincere. Caelin also talked about AI use in preparing for college or writing college essays with AI, which helped me to further know that not only is AI used to write your essays for you bad, but also unethical, as it creates an impossible standard for the other people applying to follow, and if you get caught you are definitely not going to that college.
Caelin also talked about how AI should not replace your critical thinking and should only be used to be more efficient and have more knowledge on topics. He also talked about how AI should also not just do the work for you or write things such as your resume because it will be easy to tell that it is generated and not written.
To conclude, the HLFYA VPE Service Learning Event on AI hosted by RBC was fun and informative. I really appreciate Caelin and the AI team at RBC for making an enjoyable and educational event.
