On Sunday, March 8, 2026, members of the HLF Young Ambassadors Virtual Program Expansion (VPE) attended a video call with Henrik Lundqvist. The ambassadors who attended this call had the opportunity to hear Henrik’s inspirational stories and messages of hard work and service. For me, one topic that stood out was the power of giving back and how rewarding and even emotional giving back and helping others in large or even small ways can truly be.

Henrik shared moments when he realized he could make a difference off the ice. He explained how even small acts of kindness can have a big impact. One story that really resonated with me was how he and his wife visited a children’s hospital on Christmas Day, he continues the tradition of visiting New York Presbyterian Hospital every year. He explained how the children’s gratitude left a lasting impression on him and his wife, and it really showed how meaningful kind gestures can be.

Henrik also discussed leadership and what it truly means to lead. Ambassadors came away with the message that leadership is not always about being the most vocal or most visible, but rather it is about having consistent discipline, stepping up to whatever role you have, and being ready to uplift others when and how needed. Henrik shared examples from critical moments in his career when small acts of encouragement, including those from his brother, inspired him and helped bring his team together. This perspective highlighted that leadership isn’t just about authority and a title, but it is also about allowing and helping others to improve and deliver in each of their important roles.

Another concept discussed during this event was resilience and how it applies in every situation people face. Henrik explained that losses and challenges like injuries, health setbacks, and criticism often taught lessons more than any victory. He described the benefits of focusing on what we can control and drawing lessons from struggles. Henrik’s approach to turning difficulties throughout life into growth showed me that resilience is a skill everyone can practice and use, no matter the obstacles.

Overall, the conversation with Henrik was very inspiring. Henrik’s stories and insights taught attendees important lessons about giving back, leadership, and resilience, which are lessons that go far beyond sports. This event reminded me that even small, intentional actions such as volunteering or using a platform as Henrik does can make a lasting impact, and it motivates me as a young ambassador to bring these values into my own life and community to make a real difference.
