My name is Evan Moy, and for my Independent Service Project, I created Photo Journey, an initiative designed to encourage creativity, self-expression, and storytelling among pediatric patients at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Through photography and journaling, I hope to give children and teenagers in the hospital an opportunity to explore their surroundings, capture meaningful moments, and creatively express themselves.

I wanted to create a project that offered more than just an activity to pass the time. Hospital stays can be challenging, particularly for younger patients who may find themselves away from their everyday routines and experiences. I thought photography could provide a unique outlet for them to engage with the world around them, reflect on their experiences, and tell their own stories. By combining instant cameras, creative prompts, and personalized journals, Photo Journey aims to make creativity accessible even within a hospital environment.

With the support of the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation and the generosity of family, friends, and community members, I was able to raise over $3,000 to fund the project. These funds will go toward purchasing cameras and assembling Photo Journey Kits for pediatric patients at NewYork-Presbyterian. I have also been working with the hospital’s Child Life team to explore how the kits can be incorporated into their existing programs and activities.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring the Photo Journey Kit to life through the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation. I hope this project will give young patients a chance to discover new ways of expressing themselves, find moments of creativity during their hospital stays, and create memories they can carry with them beyond the hospital.
