Alex Rentz, a Young Ambassador for the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation and a junior at Darien High School recently organized a clothing drive through Clothes to Kids Fairfield County as his independent service project (ISP).

Clothes to Kids is an organization that collects new/lightly used clothing for underprivileged youth, grades K-12. Their goal is for the kids who receive their clothes to feel confident in their new clothes while attending school and other activities. Alex was inspired by their mission as he believes that kids perform their best both in the classroom and on the field when they feel confident and comfortable.

Alex started his project by reaching out to Merryl Hackman with Clothes to Kids. She was thrilled to hear about this project and sent him a list of the clothes needed such as: shirts, pants, hats, and winter coats. Alex proceeded to send an email to friends and teammates, asking them to consider donating their lightly used items to his clothing drive. His community showed out for the cause and he received interest from a large number of the people he emailed. Those who were interested emailed him the date in which their donations would be ready, and he stopped by numerous houses to pick up bags of clothes.

Alex was lucky enough to receive many generous donations from his community. In total, Alex was able to collect about 20 bags of clothing and estimated that these bags contained 400 items of clothing. The clothes he collected will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the lives of his peers in Fairfield country.
