On Sunday January 16th, The Henrik Lundqvist Foundation continued Henrik and Therese’s belief that youth have the power to make a difference. The 7th class of Young Ambassadors were welcomed at HLF’s second virtual orientation, where 15 inspiring young adults from both the tri-state and DC metro area learned about their upcoming journey as the next young ambassadors.
During Orientation, ambassadors were greeted by the YA Program Director, HLF’s Executive Director, and Co-Founder Henrik Lundqvist. They learned more in depth about what it means to be a young ambassador from the roots of the foundation. Throughout the year, the new YA’s will (1) complete a minimum of fifteen 15 hours of community service, (2) Complete one independent service project in support of HLF’s mission, (3) Attend at least one HLF-hosted event and/or service project, (4) Make a short presentation to your class, team or other community group about HLF’s mission, your work as an HLFYA and how to apply to be a YA in the future.
Orientation also included HLF’s 2022 mentors, previous young ambassadors with HLF, to “meet” their new mentees and share their own experiences as a Young Ambassador. HLFYA mentors guide the new ambassadors until they complete the program in the fall.
HLF kicked off this class’s journey over MLK Weekend by having everyone share 3 acts of kindness they did the prior week. Small gestures such as holding the door or checking up on a friend, to larger actions like supporting a go fund me, creating a 5k, etc. It shined light on why these individuals were picked to represent HLF’s mission. HLF is eager to see the creativity and passion for helping others this class will bring to the foundation for years to come.
HLF is thrilled to continue the Young Ambassadors program for its 7th year with nearly 100 participants since its inception. The HLFYA program now also includes a scholarship opportunity for all participants who complete the program and choose to continue on to higher education.
