Who Inspires Me: Maya Angelou
For my Independent Service Project I organized a book drive for Eugenio Maria de Hostos Microsociety school in the Bronx, where many kids don’t have the same opportunities I am lucky to find myself with. I collected books from people in my school and community, in hopes of providing books for kids I find myself so geographically close to, yet lead very different lives from. I was able to collect around 500 books, and hope to continue to collect books over the summer in time for school to start in September.
I also painted a mural to donate to Sunrise Day Camp, a day camp for kids with cancer and their siblings. The mural will be hung in camp, and all the campers will contribute to it by writing what they are proud of themselves for on it
