Starting in the first week of October 2025, Jeffrey Child, a senior at Oratory Prep School in Summit, NJ organized and ran a book drive as his independent service project for the Youth Ambassadors program at the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation. His project focused on acquiring book donations and aimed to promote literacy among the youth of New Jersey.
Jeffrey began the book drive in early October by printing flyers to hang around his school hallways and put bins in the main lobby to gather donations. To reach even more people, he was able to get a blurb for his service project in the morning announcements. His efforts inspired classmates, teachers, and faculty members to participate and donate new or gently used books for elementary, middle, and high school students. Beyond Jeffrey’s in school efforts, he reached out to many families in his neighborhood to encourage them to give personal donations. With his combined efforts, he was able to gather nearly 400 books!
\Throughout this process in October, Jeffrey was in contact with the Bridge of Books Foundation, who thankfully accepted and distributed the books to communities in need. On November 6th, Jeffrey drove to the foundations office in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Here he donated all of his books and got several pictures to reflect his experience. Jeffrey Child’s imperative efforts to make a difference reflect just how the Henrik Lundqvist Foundations Youth Ambassadors Program empowers students to take initiative and make an impact.
