After being inspired by a relative’s stay at New-York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, Young Ambassador Charlotte Healy completed a thoughtful service project titled “Comfort for the Kids” through the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation. The project sought to provide the children currently undergoing treatment in the hospital with items that foster relief during their stay.
After consulting with an advisor from the hospital, Charlotte gained helpful insight into what the children are experiencing. Homesickness and discomfort are common feelings for patients, making comfort hard to achieve during an extended stay. Items including blankets, slippers, sleep masks, Bluetooth headphones, and sound machines can really make a difference in a child’s experience.
Charlotte decided to hold a fundraiser at a local yoga studio along with establishing a fundraising site to raise money. After promoting the event within her community, she held multiple classes where 100% of the cost was contributed to the fund. While hosting, she also educated participants about the mission of the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation and her cause. Attendees were interested in their impact and generous with their donations.
After her efforts were complete, Charlotte raised a total of $1,300 for the hospital. A portion of the funds went to carefully purchasing the children’s most requested items, which were later shipped to the hospital. The remaining amount was donated directly to the hospital to help remain long term comfort as new needs arise throughout the future.
Charlotte was beyond thankful for the opportunity to help the children at New-York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and hopes to continue to support them throughout her career!
