HLF is proud to announce our continued support to community partner Food Bank for NYC. Recently HLF donated $50,000 to FBNYC.
Part of the money will go to support Food Bank’s Campus Pantry program enabling them to provide food and resources to one existing K-12 school partner for the 2022-2023 school year. The Campus Pantry program is designed to address child hunger by establishing food pantries onsite at K-12 schools to provide nutritious food to children and their families. Food Bank partners with each participating school to establish a pantry, complete with food, storage equipment, and the necessary tools, training and administrative support to distribute food on-site. Each family receives a bag or box each month containing enough food to prepare nine meals per person. Food Bank provides a variety of items from each food group including grains, vegetables, fruits, proteins, and dairy.
The remainder of the grant will be allocated to their new Mobile Pantry program. Food Bank launched the Mobile Pantry program in January 2021, in response to the need to fill gaps in New York City’s emergency food network. Mobile Pantry deploys Food Bank trucks outfitted with all the materials needed to conduct monthly outdoor distributions of healthy, nutritious food. With an emphasis on fresh produce (60% of food distributed is produce), Mobile Pantry is designed to address both hunger and inadequate nutrition. At each monthly distribution, families receive enough food to provide nine meals per person including one bag filled with fresh produce and one bag filled with nutritious, shelf-stable pantry items and protein-rich foods.
Overall the $50,000 grant will provide more than 33,000 meals to 400 children and families.
